Target Audience: For DSLs new to role or for those wanting a refresher after an absence from the role.

Course Content:
This course is for newly appointed, Early Years Designated Safeguarding Leads and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads, and appropriate members of the setting’s safeguarding teams to develop an understanding of their role in taking the lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection.
- Understand Designated Safeguarding Lead role in senior leadership of a setting
- Explore Solihull Early Years, Solihull Safeguarding Children Partnership toolkit and NSPCC resources which will support this role
- Revisit statutory and good practice guidance
- Understand the steps an organisation must take to ensure the safety of children including making referrals
- Discuss best practice in relation to child protection records: recording, storage, transfer & retention
- Have an awareness of the barriers to staff recognising and reporting concerns and think about ways to overcome these
- Explore the emotional dimension of the work and support.
- Network with other DSLs
