Target Audience: For DSLs new to role or for those wanting a refresher.

Course Content:
This course is an introduction for Early Years Designated Safeguarding Leads and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads, and appropriate members of the setting’s safeguarding teams to develop an understanding of their role in taking the lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection.
- Re visit statutory and good practice guidance
- Understand DSL role in senior leadership of a setting
- Network with other DSLs
- Explore Early Years, Solihull LSCP toolkit and NSPCC resources which will support this role
- Understand the steps an organisation must take to ensure the safety of children including making referrals
- Discuss best practice in relation to child protection records: recording, storage, transfer & retention
- Have an awareness of the barriers to staff recognising and reporting concerns and think about ways to overcome these
- Explore the emotional dimension of the work and support.
