Training frequently asked questions

Solihull training is for practitioners who work in early education and care in Solihull. Practitioners who are registering with Ofsted to work in Solihull can access First Aid and Safeguarding training.

You should complete the booking form and send it back to eyenquiries@solihull.gov.uk with payment if necessary.

All booking forms are processed strictly in date order of receipt. At peak times it may take some time before you hear from us. If you do wish to check we have received your form, please contact eyenquiries@solihull.gov.uk to enquire about your booking.

We will endeavour to offer you an alternative date where possible. If not, your details will be put on the waiting list and you will be contacted when another course or space becomes available.

We can now take payment via cheque, journal transfer (SMBC settings) or by invoice.

The Solihull Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) provide a modular programme which Designated Safeguarding Leads in settings should attend. Practitioners can choose modules to meet their individual professional development requirements, but this must be in conjunction with their organisations needs and working with their line manager.

As a general guide, all those who regularly make child protection referrals, and are regularly expected to attend child protection conferences and core groups, and/or manager or supervise those who do, will continue to be expected to receive a minimum of 3-6 hours and ideally attend 1 multi-agency training module per year.

Solihull Early Years and Education Improvement Service provide additional DSL training for deputy DSLs, those who may need to refresh their understanding or who are new to role and require awareness-raising ahead of LSCP training, and team leads. This can be accessed through the EYC training pages. It does not replace LSCP training.

In Solihull, each early childhood education and care provider is responsible for ensuring that staff have the competencies they need to fulfil their role in safeguarding children and promoting their welfare, and, are confident in their professional role in their workplace setting. There is a statutory requirement to ensure each new practitioner understands the settings safeguarding policy and procedures during induction. There is no need for you to renew training at any particular intervals, but under the EYFS requirements you must ensure that all staff caring for children have up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding. Attendance at Solihull safeguarding training is one way you may choose to do this.

Solihull Local Authority also provides managing allegations (LSCP) and safer recruitment training (EYC and Solihull HR). We recommend that those practitioners involved in the employment of staff consider attending this training to ensure they have the knowledge and understanding of safe recruitment procedures (at least one person on any recruitment panel) and the procedures to handle allegations against staff.
