Ofsted published their report into ‘The Reception curriculum in a sample of good and outstanding primary schools’ called ‘Bold Beginnings’ last week. The opening comment states ‘A good early education is the foundation for later success. For too many children, however, their Reception Year is a missed opportunity that can leave them exposed to all the painful and unnecessary consequences of falling behind their peers.’ We will explore the key findings at the spring term LA leaders and managers meetings (5th and 6th March 2018) and explore how schools make sure their curriculum is ‘fit for purpose’.
Which? Magazine have surveyed a range of internet connected toys and found that, without appropriate safety features, they may pose a risk to children's safety.
With Christmas approaching, you may want to share the following links with parents and carers. The Information Commissioner recently published an article looking at the risks of using smart toys (some of which have cameras and microphones recording the environment and the child's play).
As part of their commemoration events for Holocaust Memorial Day, Solihull School will be hosting the British Premiere of Condemned to Remember – a highly acclaimed film depicting the journey of Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental across Europe. Here he meets survivors of the Srebrenecia genocide and shows how racism is once again on the rise in Europe and how we should all be aware of its dreadful scenarios.
Over the last few years, the Council and its partners have commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day by holding a service in Solihull. The service has developed year on year. The aim is for Holocaust Memorial Day to continue in 2018, involving Solihull’s schools and colleges.
