News from NSPCC – Domestic Abuse
The NSPCC has published a news story on the increase in contacts to its Helpline concerning domestic abuse. Figures show that between April 2024 and September 2024, the NSPCC Helpline handled an increase of 19% in contacts when compared to the same period last year. Common issues mentioned included: coercive or controlling behaviour; emotional domestic abuse; and post-separation domestic abuse.
Read the news story: We’ve seen a surge in concerns about children experiencing domestic abuse
Sadly, we have not yet been able to launch the Operation Encompass for early years settings. There is a wider West Midlands Police review into our Solihull procedures taking place. Widening this to early years remains a future plan. Have a look at the SSCP training which includes emotional abuse amongst others on offer.

SSCP Frontline Practitioner Survey
Jo Procter, SSCP Independent Scrutineer is undertaking a piece of work looking at the effectiveness of the multi-agency safeguarding arrangements in Solihull. As part of this work, Jo would like to capture the views of frontline practitioners working in Solihull on topics such as communications, training and priorities. The short survey should only take a few minutes and we would love to get as many early years and childcare responses as possible. The survey closes on 9 December.
