2018 EASEE (Educational Advice & Support for Educational Establishments) Package

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) recommends that all schools should have Emergency and Business Continuity plans and procedures in place.

To assist in the development of your Schools Emergency and Business Continuity arrangements the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire (CSW) Resilience Team have reviewed and updated their EASEE guidance. These resources, together with general advice and support, are freely available to you. For further information, please see link/letter below.

Solihull Zero Suicide Pledge

Solihull Council is launching the ‘Solihull Zero Suicide Pledge’ on Monday 10 September to support World Suicide Prevention Day and we need your help to promote the Pledge.   

The Pledge is all about looking after family, friends and colleagues, becoming more aware of any concerning changes and asking if they are ok.  There is free online training to help people spot the warning signs in others and details of support services are provided. 

Please encourage your staff and parents to sign up to the Pledge.

Revised Keeping Children Safe in Education (2018)

The revised Keeping Children Safe in Education (2018) is statutory from 3rd September 2018. Please see Link 1 below.

We have revised the child protection policy, safeguarding policy and behaviour policy to reflect the changes; these will be uploaded onto the new safeguarding website which is currently being developed by the IT team.  They should be available by the end of the week at the link below (Link 2).  The slide attached below presents a site map of the new website.

The managing allegations policy and the safer recruitment policy have been updated and will be presented to the union policy group during September; they will then be made available.  The whistleblowing and code of conduct policies remain unchanged.

The education safeguarding strategy has now been finalised and  will be uploaded to the safeguarding website.  This sets out how we will work with all Solihull schools on safeguarding in education.

Important English and Maths Update – Pupils working Below the National Curriculum Assessment Standard

The Standards and Testing Agency (STA) has published the new pre-key stage standards at key stage one and key stage two for use from the 2018/19 academic year. Pre-key stage standards are for pupils who are working below the overall standard of national curriculum assessments, but who are engaged in subject-specific study.

In summer 2019, teachers must use these pre-key stage standards to make statutory teacher assessment judgements at the end of key stage one or key stage two for pupils who are working below the national curriculum teacher assessment frameworks, and above P scale four.

If a pupil is working below these standards, teachers should report their outcomes using P scales one to four.

These changes follow last year's consultation on the recommendations made by the Rochford Review, which called for these standards to be introduced, replacing the 'P scales'.
