Early Years Professional Development Programme (EYPDP)

The EYPDP early years recovery programme will help address the impact of the pandemic on the youngest and most disadvantaged children. Delivering high-quality, evidence informed professional development to early years practitioners, the EYPDP is available to up to 10,000 eligible practitioners across England.

The programme is being delivered by Education Development Trust and the next cohort of learners are due to start this September, with registration now open.

The programme has been designed to fit flexibly around busy lifestyles, covering 3 tailored modules in:

  • communication and language
  • early mathematics
  • personal, social and emotional development

Registration for cohort 2 starting this September is now open and eligibility criteria details are available. https://www.earlyyearspdp.com/ . Register your interest.

Bookmark competition – Coronation style!

Children and young people in Solihull are invited to design a bookmark which shows how they celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III. It could show a Coronation event in Solihull, a street party with neighbours, drinks and cake with family and friends in front of the telly – or something else entirely.

The lucky winners will be invited to have afternoon tea with the Mayor of Solihull and will receive a gift voucher and a certificate. The best bookmark designs for each category will also be made into Coronation bookmarks for Solihull Libraries

To enter, please pick up an entry form from your local library. You can also download the entry form and bookmark template Solihull Libraries website. Terms and conditions apply.

The competition closes on Monday 5 June.

There are four categories for the following age groups:

  • Under 5s
  • 5-8 years
  • 9-11 years
  • 12-16 years

Encourage your groups to get creative and produce a lasting legacy of the Coronation.

For Information

Emergency planning and response for education, childcare, and children’s social care settings update

All education, childcare, and children’s social care settings should have emergency plans in place. Your plan should explain how you would respond if you needed to take any temporary actions in the event of an emergency including significant public health incidents and severe weather and consideration of Martyn’s Law.

The aim of an emergency plan is to help you and your staff plan for and respond effectively to an emergency. The emergency could happen at the setting or on an educational visit or outing. DfE have updated their guidance with information on emergency alerts, building local partnerships and recording attendance for remote education as well as adding links to additional resources, templates, and checklists. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/emergency-planning-and-response-for-education-childcare-and-childrens-social-care-settings

Add another setting to your nursery or other daycare organisation (EYS)

You must apply to Ofsted to move your setting or to include additional premises in the registration of your nursery or other day care. This guidance has been updated to clarified what you need to do when moving to or operating from additional premises.

Summer Term Leaders and Managers network meetings start next week

We have our Solihull Leaders Network Meetings starting on Monday 16.5.23 with PVI group settings leads at Sans Souci (16.5.23 at Elmwood is not going ahead as numbers were too low). The training overview and all the courses available from us in Solihull, are all on our Solgrid Early Years and Childcare webpages.  https://www.solgrid.org.uk/eyc/training/

Outdoor Classroom Day is on Thursday 18th May 2023. As a leader and manager are you confident that all of the children are benefitting from being outside? The benefits for health and well-beingdevelopment and learning , are well documented. What about your youngest children? As a manager why don’t you try and set yourself a range of times on 18.5.23 to stop and reflect on the outdoor experiences of the children in your care. Set your phone alarm for every 2 hours or so, to look, or take a quick walk around the setting, to see the quality of your outdoor experiences and opportunities for all ages? Ask your room leader how much of their day babies are outside. Reflect upon the video here  on core strength and co-ordination or listen to the pedagogical podcast on creative thinking here with Anni McTavish. The weather forecast for Thursday is perfect in that you could enjoy a range of weather all in one day; to enjoy splashing in the rain and also feeling a little bit of sunshine.

Have fun…we are always happy to get photos or comments about the great work you are doing.
