DfE would very much welcome your views as part of this consultation. The consultation will run till 23 January 2023, and the final criteria will be published in Spring. If you have any views or questions on the consultation please write to EYELevel3Criteria.ConsultationResponses@education.gov.uk.

National Professional Qualification for Early Years Leadership (NPQEYL)

The NPQEYL has been developed to increase knowledge of leadership in early years settings, strengthen staff approaches to teaching and learning, and support children whose development has been impacted by the pandemic. Participants will gain skills and confidence so they can deliver high-quality education and care to support children’s development, become a better organisational leader and develop staff so they can reach their full potential. The course is free, flexible and designed by sector experts to help professionals across the sector to develop their career.

More information about the NPQEYL and eligibility criteria can be found at: Early years leadership NPQ (education.gov.uk)

Professional Development Programme PDP 3

PDP has been designed to ensure early years practitioners have the skills they need to support young children’s development in the areas that make the most difference to long term development and attainment. It will be available in all local authorities in England through a mix of self-study learning and online webinars. PDP 3 will be available to practitioners nationally, targeted at reaching disadvantaged children. PDP3 is designed to support level 3 qualified practitioners who have not already completed PDP1 or PDP2. The programme will cover:

  • early communication and language
  • early mathematics
  • personal, social and emotional development (PSED)

It is expected that practitioners will have around 7 to 8 months to complete the 3 modules. PDP3 will launch in February 2023. You can find further details and register your interest on the early years professional development programme website. It is free training with some cover costs available.
