A message from Louise Rees, Director of Children’s Services and Skills

Dear colleagues

Please find attached a joint letter from Louise Rees, Director of Children’s Services and Ruth Tennant, Director of Public Health setting out the latest advice on coronavirus.

Click this link to select the joint letter.

Accompanying the letter is a separate communication for you to send to parents and carers through your usual routes which we hope you, and they, will find helpful. We will aim to get further updates to you as soon as practicable, particularly on the local situation, but we do need to ensure that we are first taking and following advice from Public Health England as the situation develops.

A message from Louise Rees, Director of Children’s Services and Skills

Dear colleagues

You will have seen in the media the developing situation regarding the spread of coronavirus, especially into Italy. Given that we have just had half term, pupils and/or staff may have been away on holiday to the affected area and it is important you are all aware of the latest government advice for travellers. The guidance is available from https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19/guidance-for-employers-and-businesses-on-covid-19.

Section 9 and the link within it is particularly relevant.

Any pupil, or member of staff who has been to any of the 11 towns subject to containment in northern Italy needs to self-isolate at home, even if asymptomatic, and call NHS 111 to inform of recent travel. Anyone who has been in wider area outlined in the orange areas of Italy in the map embedded in the guidance does not need to undertake any special measures but, if they develop symptoms, they should self-isolate and call NHS 111. The map is also attached to this linkin case anyone has difficulty opening it.

This is a fast changing situation and whilst there is no cause for alarm and risks remain very low, please ensure you keep checking for any further updates and advice through special Head Lines bulletins and from advice that may come directly to you from the Department for Education. If you do have any queries, please contact the council through Solihull Connect on 0121 704 8001 or 0121 704 6000.
