New DfE Safeguarding Guidance and FREE Training for Early Years Providers

The new 🔗Help for Early Years Providers: Safeguarding resource provides practical information and advice on creating a strong safeguarding culture, recognising concerns early, responding appropriately and ensuring children are safe, healthy and supported to thrive.

In partnership with the NSPCC, the DfE has also developed free online safeguarding training for all early years educators. The training covers Sections 1 and 2 of the safeguarding training outlined in Annex C of the EYFS statutory framework and is designed for those working with children from birth to five years.

The guidance includes information on:

• Safeguarding responsibilities of providers and practitioners
• The role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
• Creating and maintaining a strong safeguarding culture
• Recognising signs of abuse, neglect and harm
• Raising, recording and reporting safeguarding concerns
• Whistleblowing procedures and when to use them
• Safer recruitment and vetting requirements
• Working in partnership with parents and carers
• Staff training, supervision and ongoing safeguarding practice
• Attendance monitoring, absence tracking and information sharing
• Resources, posters and links to further guidance and support

By using the guidance and supporting resources, providers can strengthen safeguarding practice, support staff confidence and help ensure every child grows up in a safe, nurturing and protective environment.
