The 2019 early years foundation stage: assessment and reporting arrangements (ARA) has now been released along with the EYFSP statistics for the national early years foundation stage profile results: 2017 to 2018. LA opportunities for EYFSP moderation will be available in autumn and spring terms. This term the focus will be PSE and will take place at Sans Souci 22/23rd November 2018 booking through inset@solihull.gov.uk. The EYFSP data will be explored at EY Leaders and Managers on Friday 9th November 2018. For further information, please see below.

Following the information issued previously, the supply issue affecting EpiPen and EpiPen Junior is expected to continue for the remainder of 2018.

The guidance from children’s allergy experts outlined in the DfE’s previous email is now subject to the following updates:

·        During this period of reduced supply, 300mcg of adrenaline can be prescribed to children weighing 25kg or above, even where the pen might state 30kg or above; and

·        In the event of anaphylaxis during this shortage period, if a child has no in-date pen, an out-of-date pen can be used. Using an out-of-date pen might give a lower dose of adrenaline but it is better to use an out-of-date pen than wait for an ambulance to arrive.

Schools should note the guidance in the letter (also attached below) from NHS allergy experts, which is being issued by GPs to those affected and includes the updated advice.

You may have seen a recent commentary by HMCI Amanda Spielman on the curriculum. For the past year, Ofsted have been carrying out a curriculum review, and this is the second commentary to emerge from that work.

Ofsted report that findings so far have shown that there is some excellent thinking and practice in the system. But all too often there are gaps in the way schools think through the curriculum they intend their pupils to receive, and how they then ensure that this is implemented successfully and has a positive impact.

These findings have fed into recent Ofsted inspector training, challenging thinking about the curriculum, progress, memory, knowledge and skills. Serving practitioner inspectors have said that they found this useful and thought-provoking. Ofsted are therefore keen to extend the offer of sharing this with all those that lead curricular thinking in schools.

This three-hour workshop aims to provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the positive elements that go into developing a rich curriculum.

If you are interested in attending this event, please register your place below.

Space are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you already act as an Ofsted Inspector you are advised not to attend this event, as you will have already received a similar version of this workshop at the recent Ofsted conferences. If you are unable to attend this event in person, you are welcome to register one representative from your school instead.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be found in the attached pdf document.

Please see updated list of training attached offered by Tudor Grange teaching school this term which now includes some additional maths training. Also attached is the updated NQT training programme including maths specific training on page 2.

Free seasonal flu vaccinations are now available for all Council staff. Our priority is to ensure these are available to front line staff who are in regular direct contact with the public and service users.

Having a flu jab is completely safe and helps protect you from serious illness as well as helping us protect the most vulnerable people that we support.

Staff are reminded that anyone with a long term condition or pregnant can receive the vaccine free from their GP or pharmacist. If this applies to you, please use this option rather than the staff scheme.

To get a vaccination voucher complete the online form (links below). You will receive an email or SMS text to take to Boots Pharmacy. You can apply for a voucher individually or for a group of up to ten colleagues. Employees who do not have email or SMS access, or are unable to ask a colleague to print off the voucher for them, should telephone the Contact Centre on 0121 704 6000.

Please get your vaccination as soon as possible - vouchers are valid until 31 December 2018.

The autumn moderation for primary writing will be taking place in November. Please find the relevant paperwork below for those attending.

Please note that all 3 sessions are now FULL.

Peacemakers and the Peace Hub are hosting another free workshop at their premises in central Birmingham. The workshop is for 4 children [KS2] and one adult, two if required.

Workshop dates are Monday 5th November or Friday 9th November, 9:45am - 14:30pm

We will be thinking about the choices people made during WW1, and how those choices influence us today.  We will also be thinking about what we can do today to stand up for peace.

The workshop will be interactive and engaging and will hopefully inspire your four young people to go back to school and share their thinking with their peers.

Please return the attached booking form as soon as you can. We have space for 3 schools on each day and priority will be given to schools who have not attended these workshops before.

Please find attached flyer with details of the Ashden Less CO2 programme and workshops. This is the 4th year of the programme and I expect it will be the last year with FREE energy audits for schools. The programme requires a bursar, site manager or eco-lead to commit to 4 half day workshops of the school year. As soon as we have recruited all the schools we will plan a date for the first workshop which will be sometime this term. Please could you contact Sarah Lardner, Sustainability Engagement Officer on 0121 704 6874 (slardner@solihull.gov.uk) or Sarah Evans, Energy Officer on 0121 704 8355 (sarahevans@solihull.gov.uk) if you are interested. It would be a shame for your school to miss out on a free energy audit.
