In response to the Ofsted publication ‘Bold Beginnings’, Solihull have invited Helen Moylett and Nancy Stewart to lead an afternoon of exploration and debate to reflect on the key themes of the  report. Nancy and Helen were National Strategy co-authors of Development Matters and were involved in writing the Early Years Foundation Stage and also contributed to the EYFS Tickell review.

On 30th April 2018, between 1pm-4pm at Sans Souci, they will lead our consideration of high quality provision for reception age children. One place per school will be available, in the first instance, for Solihull Head Teachers/EYFS leads.

To apply for a place, please email the delegate name to: inset@solihull.gov.uk

There will be a charge of £70 for the half-day session. Additional places may be offered to schools that have requested multiple-places and are on the waiting list if space allows [allocated in the order in which they are requested]. The report will also be a key agenda item on the EYFS leaders and managers meetings in the spring.

Earlier this year Solihull local authority was successful in its bid for additional funding to support the take up of 30 hours by early education funded children. We have been able to book Julie Revels to deliver EYFS SEND training in June. Julie has supported the development of the NASEN EY SEND training materials and has a vast range of experience as a trainer and consultant specialising in inclusion in the early years. For full details, please see flier below.

The DfE have announced that NFER is the preferred supplier of the reception baseline. The new statutory baseline will begin in autumn 2020 following trialling in schools. A summary of the new arrangements ‘Measuring progress in primary schools’ is available here. New Early Learning Goals should be available mid-May. Unfortunately Gill Jones and Sue Robb are unable to join us at the Bold Beginnings meeting [30th April] but we hope for a lively discussion.
