Ofsted protocol for maintained schools

When you receive the call informing you of your inspection, please call the school improvement office. Speak with your adviser if they are available and if not, speak another member of the team. It would be helpful at this stage to have the name/names of the inspector(s).

Your school adviser will make contact (if you were unable to speak to them after calling the office) with you to offer support and to establish timings for a conversation with the inspector(s). Wherever possible, your adviser will come into school to have this conversation, although some inspection teams prefer to speak on the phone. If your school adviser is unavailable on the day, then the team leader for school improvement will have that conversation on their behalf.

Your school adviser will attend the feedback at the end of your inspection but if they are unable, another member of the team will attend. There may be a rare occasion when no one can attend just because of the short notice but we will endeavour to prioritise these meetings.

We know how stressful it can be when you do get that call and we want to support you and support your school to achieve the best possible outcome.

If your school is an academy we would want to support you in the same way, particularly if you have been working with your school adviser. However, this will be by your invitation only.
