For more information on statutory moderation, phonic screening check and key stage 2 SATs monitoring, please see letter , handbook and guidance below from Donna Wright, Senior Education Improvement Adviser.

A letter from Phil Leivers, Assistant Director, regarding the forthcoming session exploring the implications of the statutory requirement for relationships and sex education to be taught in all schools from 2020 is available below.

This session will equip personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) leads to prepare for statutory RSE through auditing their subject area.

Staff delivering RSE will increase their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and the changes that are enshrined in law from 2020. There will be updates on a range of sexual health issues, engaging with stakeholders and ensuring that teaching meets the needs of learners. Sessions will be delivered by staff from Umbrella, Loud Mouth, Jigsaw PSHE and the Solihull school improvement team.

Staff are able to opt into relevant sessions (see attached agenda) or attend for the whole day (lunch provided).

Please email inset@solihull.gov.uk  to book your free places. The session will take place on June 18, 2019 at Sans Souci training centre, 9am - 4pm.

Please see responses to questions posed by teachers about writing assessment (including the use of success criteria, spelling and a particular weakness) and statutory moderation below, together with a copy of the KS1/KS2 teacher assessment guidance 2018.

We are holding a free primary STEM CPD session for teachers in Solihull on Thursday 12 March, 4:45-6:00pm at Solihull Civic Suite.

This session delivered by NFU Mutual will present STEM learning within the context of engaging, real life problems to give children a sense of the purpose and direction of their learning, consequently improving their motivation and perseverance when tackling tricky topics. As former primary school teachers, NFU Mutual understand the challenges faced by the profession and have designed their resources with three main goals in mind: to save teachers time and reduce workload; to spark learners’ passion and enthusiasm for STEM subjects and to convey important messages about food and nutrition through a cross-curricular, project-based approach.

In this exciting practical session, they’ll be throwing elements of Ready Steady Cook, The Apprentice and Countryfile into a blender and producing some brilliant learning outcomes. Expect a session of ideas for exciting practical activities and projects and a free scheme of teaching and learning resources that will allow you to infuse your wider curriculum with engaging STEM learning opportunities (see attached Stemterprise training flyer).

This is aimed at science or maths lead/STEM lead.  Please email hcolson@solihull.gov.uk to confirm your attendance for the session.
