In response to the Ofsted publication ‘Bold Beginnings’, Solihull have invited Helen Moylett and Nancy Stewart to lead an afternoon of exploration and debate to reflect on the key themes of the  report. Nancy and Helen were National Strategy co-authors of Development Matters and were involved in writing the Early Years Foundation Stage and also contributed to the EYFS Tickell review.

On 30th April 2018, between 1pm-4pm at Sans Souci, they will lead our consideration of high quality provision for reception age children. One place per school will be available, in the first instance, for Solihull Head Teachers/EYFS leads.

To apply for a place, please email the delegate name to: inset@solihull.gov.uk

There will be a charge of £70 for the half-day session. Additional places may be offered to schools that have requested multiple-places and are on the waiting list if space allows [allocated in the order in which they are requested]. The report will also be a key agenda item on the EYFS leaders and managers meetings in the spring.

Ofsted published their report into ‘The Reception curriculum in a sample of good and outstanding primary schools’ called ‘Bold Beginnings’ last week. The opening comment states ‘A good early education is the foundation for later success. For too many children, however, their Reception Year is a missed opportunity that can leave them exposed to all the painful and unnecessary consequences of falling behind their peers.’ We will explore the key findings at the spring term LA leaders and managers meetings (5th and 6th March 2018) and explore how schools make sure their curriculum is ‘fit for purpose’.

The Cameron Grant Memorial Trust was established by Carol and Evan Grant to mark their son’s life. Cameron took his own life in November 2014 aged just 21. He suffered from depression for seven years before he died, but managed to hide this from his family and everyone who knew him. For more information about the charitable aims of the Trust, please click link below. The website also has details of how you can participate in a ‘night walk’ to raise money for the charity and order ‘Cameron’s coasters’. The purpose of the coasters is to encourage those with poor mental health to speak up and ask for help.
