Message from Lorraine Lord

Dear headteacher and chair of governors

We have sent out links to the education safeguarding audit in Head Lines, emailed to you on 13 May 2019.

As you complete your audit, could you record any partial or no responses as actions in the action plan (attached to this announcement). Additional rows can be added if needed.

Please submit the action plan to us by Friday 12 July 2019.

Please could you complete and submit all sections of the audit survey by Friday 28th June 2019.

Please contact us at educationsafeguarding@solihull.gov.uk if you require any further guidance.

The presentation notes, looking at the education safeguarding strategy, from the breakfast meeting on 29 January 2019 are available here.

The education safeguarding strategy www.solgrid.org.uk/education/safeguarding/ sets out local arrangements for working in co-operation with education providers in Solihull using Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 as a point of reference.

This is a reminder that emergency planning and advice is available through the Coventry Solihull and Warwickshire resilience team.  This includes EASEE protocols.

Following the information issued previously, the supply issue affecting EpiPen and EpiPen Junior is expected to continue for the remainder of 2018.

The guidance from children’s allergy experts outlined in the DfE’s previous email is now subject to the following updates:

·        During this period of reduced supply, 300mcg of adrenaline can be prescribed to children weighing 25kg or above, even where the pen might state 30kg or above; and

·        In the event of anaphylaxis during this shortage period, if a child has no in-date pen, an out-of-date pen can be used. Using an out-of-date pen might give a lower dose of adrenaline but it is better to use an out-of-date pen than wait for an ambulance to arrive.

Schools should note the guidance in the letter (also attached below) from NHS allergy experts, which is being issued by GPs to those affected and includes the updated advice.

Please see latest safeguarding checks letter for schools attached below. The main change is the notification that ICT Services staff working in schools have been subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check and a barred list checked, so can work unsupervised.
