Communications (test)

For the tenth anniversary of My Money Week, My Money (formerly pfeg)  have developed exciting and brand new digital video resources for primary and secondary schools which offer an interactive learning experience with short videos focused on making money decisions.

Primary pupils will explore raising and saving money and charitable giving by making decisions on behalf of the school council featured in the videos. Secondary students will consider mobile phones, insurance and risk by making decisions on behalf of the young people featured in the videos.

Please see links below to the main website for further details and to the primary and secondary resources.

Poor oral health can affect children and young people’s ability to sleep, eat, speak, play and socialise with other children. When children have toothache or need treatment, this can mean absence from school and parents having to take time of work.  Oral health is an integral part of overall health, which affects children’s ability to learn, thrive and develop.

There is still a great deal of variation of tooth decay across the UK.

*A third of all children starting school each year have signs of tooth decay. Tooth extractions are the biggest reason children are admitted to hospital for general anaesthetics.

*There has been a 19.6% increase in children being admitted to hospital with tooth decay between 2010 and 2015.

*In England, children and young people drink sugary soft drinks more often than anywhere else in Europe.

*Roughly 40% of children still do not visit the dentist each year

*74% of adults have had to have a tooth extracted.

*1 in 3 people have never flossed their teeth

Brushing x1 daily means you are 33% more likely to suffer from dental decay

Please find attached below a list of dentists in the Solihull borough that are currently registering NHS patients and a quick poster that promotes good oral health.

We are putting on an event at Sans Souci (10am - 4.30pm) on the day the key stage two results are released by DfE; by this date all other end of key stage data should also be available. We invite headteachers to bring their data and use some or all of the day to analyse their results and identify key priorities for the following year.

The data team and the school advisers will be on hand to work with you to help you make sense of your data and start to make comparisons with the provisional national picture. Members of EIMS will also be available to talk you through how you can analysis your data using SIMS.  You should go away with a clear analysis of your schools data for 2018. You can attend with another member of your SLT and can work independently or as groups with the support you need on hand in the room. More information will follow.

To help us with numbers, if you intend to come along on the day please could you let us know by email to: inset@solihull.gov.uk

Contacts: Clair McNeill (SEIS) & Kate Sirrett (EIMS)

Schools should now have received their booking forms for next year’s Music Service provision. The service is more than happy to come and look at your needs on a school by school basis and can help with what level of charges to pass on to parents and ensure that you are getting the best value for money. We are aware that there are many other competitors offering services out there, sometimes at reduced prices,  but not necessarily with the quality checks, wider enrichment  and accountability that we can offer.  We are very keen to continue to engage with schools to ensure that what we offer is of the highest quality and is tailored to the needs of the school. We have a really exciting enrichment programme planned for next year and really want as many schools as possible to engage with it.

If you wish to discuss your Music Provision further then please contact Toby Smith at: stsmith@solmus.solgrid.org.uk.
