Please see the attached invitations for further details about these two exciting events:

Tuesday 24 September – you and/or interested colleagues are invited to Solihull school along with a group of students (secondary) for a unique event about the extraordinary life story of Eva Schloss. Eva will take part in a Q&A after a performance of and then they came for me, a critically acclaimed play about her remarkable family history and an exhibition, the promise, about the artistic talents her brother Heinz cultivated whilst hiding from the Nazis for two years. It is the first time the play and the exhibition will be shown together.

Wednesday 25 September – CPD day for colleagues (KS2/secondary) nationwide on tackling prejudice and discrimination in a digital age: what can schools do? As well as incorporating three events of the programme outlined above, the day will also involve a series of prominent speakers and organisations who will cover a broad range of contemporary topics, whilst providing practical advice and measure for teachers interested in developing such initiatives in their own schools.

Further information about the programme can be found in the attached flyer, with more specific details to follow in due course.

This session will equip personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) leads to prepare for statutory RSE through auditing their subject area.

Staff delivering RSE will increase their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and the changes that are enshrined in law from 2020. There will be updates on a range of sexual health issues, engaging with stakeholders and ensuring that teaching meets the needs of learners. Sessions will be delivered by staff from Umbrella, Loud Mouth, Jigsaw PSHE and the Solihull school improvement team.

Staff are able to opt into relevant sessions (see attached agenda) or attend for the whole day (lunch provided).

Please email inset@solihull.gov.uk  to book your free places. The session will take place on June 18, 2019 at Sans Souci training centre, 9am – 4pm.

Kooth is an online counselling and emotional well-being support service for children and young people. Kooth is a completely safe and an anonymous website where young people can go to gain advice, support and guidance from our BACP qualified counsellors, up to 10pm, 365 days a year.

Our experienced counsellors, moderated message forums and magazine can offer emotional support to young people with a wide range of issues, from having a bad day or falling out with their friends, to more serious issues such as bullying, stress, anxiety, depression, family relationships, sexuality, eating disorders, self-harm, abuse etc. We can also support young people who are on the waiting list for CAMHS or those who do not meet their criteria.

For year 6 students who will soon be transitioning to secondary schools it may be an exciting time but may also cause anxiety and stress in others. Kooth has supported many year 6 students at this stage by discussing Kooth’s services and how it can provide additional support and guidance should they wish. Kooth can also support vulnerable young people who may experience isolation or low self-esteem and help build their resilience for the big changes ahead.

If you would like to have a discussion or arrange for a short presentation to be delivered to your students please contact Jas Hothi, jhothi@xenzone.com or call 07949 819503.

The event is aimed at children who have special educational needs and disabilities and their families. For further information about the fun day, please see the attached poster.

Commissioners are currently considering how information from the health related behaviour questionnaire (HRBQ) is used and how it will be funded in the future.

In order to ensure that they have an accurate picture of the contribution the data makes to school improvement, we would be grateful if you completed the short survey on this page.

The window for completion is the 1 – 31 May 2019.

Thank you in advance for your time.
