Solihull education improvement service has launched a revised school improvement strategy. Over the next two weeks, schools will receive notification of which category their school is in, who their adviser is, and therefore the amount of support they can access during this academic year. Your school adviser will be in touch to arrange dates.

We are inviting schools to 'opt-in' to a visit by contacting early years enquiries. Once the school is allocated an early years adviser that adviser will contact the school to arrange a suitable date and agenda.

The visit will encompass all of the EYFS provision under the school's Ofsted registration and may include a discussion with the EYFS lead and the extended services leads.

Further information is included in the attached letter.

This document outlines the strengths and areas for development that resulted from taking into account feedback from moderators, headteachers, observations during quality assurance visits, EIMS, the KS1 STA external moderation visit and learning from the moderation manager undertaking the STA operational external moderator role.

Through consultation with schools, and question level analysis of 2017 and 2018 KS2 SAT papers, the primary maths forum identified the need for support with the teaching of fractions.  The fractions domain has been divided into separate key areas which include

  • Counting in fractions
  • Recognising and identifying fractions
  • Comparing and ordering fractions (incl. equivalence)
  • Adding and subtracting fractions
  • Multiplying and dividing fractions

For each key area, a variety of ideas are presented illustrating how concrete resources/ manipulatives can be used in teaching progressively from year 1 to year 6, as well as pictures and images and abstract representations for each concept.

Mosaic is offering training on phonics and reading for primary teachers and teaching assistants this term.

Please see attached flyer for further information and booking details.
